How can we help?

SIS connections

Connecting PowerSchool

PowerSchool connects over OAuth 2.0 CC. nOS only ever reads from PowerSchool.

  1. In PowerSchool, open System → System Settings → Plugin Management Configuration → Install and choose the plugin file for nOS (a .zip; don't unzip it). Its plugin.xml must grant the read permissions below.
  2. Tick Enable for the plugin and confirm its read-only data access.
  3. Click the plugin → Data Provider Configuration and copy the Client ID and Client Secret.
  4. Paste your PowerSchool server into Base URL (https://district.powerschool.com, no /admin) and the two values into Client ID and Client secret.
  5. Choose Test connection. nOS then checks every data set.

Permissions to enable:

  • STUDENTS, SCHOOLS (ViewOnly) (required)
  • USERS, SCHOOLSTAFF (ViewOnly) (required). Teachers.
  • COURSES, SECTIONS, TERMS (ViewOnly) (required)
  • CC — class rosters (ViewOnly) (required). Without it nOS imports your section list but no rosters, so it can't answer anything about individual students.
  • <oauth accessLevelV1Api="READ"/> (required). PowerSchool 25.2 and later. Lets the plugin use the data API.

Each permission is a ViewOnly field grant in the plugin's plugin.xml; after a change, raise the plugin's version and re-upload it. PowerSchool's plugin API has no course-request feed, so upload a Requests workbook for next year's choices.
